York Teaching Hospital Facilities Management (YTHFM) employs more than 1,000 staff and provides a wide array of professional estates services, capital planning, project management, estates and facilities management, medical equipment and transport. Formed in October 2018, we are a young organisation at the start of our journey transitioning from the former Directorate of Facilities & Estates for York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to becoming a fully-fledged commercial business.
We are looking for an ambitious, experienced estates and facilities professional to join as Managing Director and to lead us on our journey to becoming independently managed, growing and high-performing organisation. One of your first tasks will be to define and deliver a strategy to maximise the commercial freedoms available to us and harness our opportunities for growth beyond our major customer, York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, whilst also maintaining and improving the services we offer to them.
As Managing Director you will have overall executive accountability and responsibility for the company and for the delivery of safe, responsive and cost effective services. You will report through YTHFM’s Management Group to the main board of York Teaching Hospital, providing specialist and professional advice both to the YTHFM Management Group, the Hospital’s Board and its Executive teams. You will fulfil a pivotal role in relationships with clients and as such must have a truly customer- focussed and patient-centric approach, appreciating and anticipating client priorities.
With extensive facilities management experience gained at senior leadership or board level, you will bring commercial experience in a complex, customer-focussed private sector firm or significant public sector organisation. You will need extensive experience of developing business, including business planning, identifying new opportunities, bid management and winning sustainable contracts.
You will be a visible leader with clear personal values that align to ours, and you will have an excellent communication style capable of inspiring confidence at board level and amongst staff. This role offers autonomy and the opportunity to shape the future of our developing organisation with the security of being backed by a major NHS organisation.
